ESD Earns 2024 AP Honor Roll Recognition

November 21, 2024

Every year, the Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP program effectively delivers results for students while broadening access. This year, ESD was granted AP Honor Roll Platinum Status along with the College Board’s newest accolade, the AP Access Award, which commends schools demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.

Thirty-two percent of 15,887 eligible schools earned a place on the 2024 AP School Honor Roll under one of the four distinctions: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Educational institutions that earn a distinction in merit exude a “commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness,” according to the College Board. For consideration, they must each meet the following criteria:

  • College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
  • College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
  • College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.

By reaching the provided metrics for both Platinum Status and the new AP Access Award, ESD has achieved the highest distinction and honor provided by the College Board.

ESD offers 34 Advanced Placement courses across numerous disciplines, including history and social studies, English, science, world language and culture, fine arts, and math and computer science. In the class of 2024 alone, 100% of students were enrolled in one or more AP courses, with 21% enrolled in ten or more courses. Between the 2023 and 2024 graduating cohorts, there were increases in the total number of AP students, number of exams, students with a score of 3 or higher, and total percentage of students that scored higher than a three on the exams.

Building upon this success, ESD remains committed to employing the best practices, resources, and opportunities for our students to develop an academic acumen that will flourish for years to come.
