Cell Phone Free Zone |
The middle school years are a critical developmental stage for students and interacting with one another, face to face, is an essential part of that development. For that reason, students in grades 5-7 are not allowed to carry cell phones. Eighth graders may bring phones but they must remain off and stored in their lockers until after the school day. They must remain out of sight in community spaces unless there is a direct communication happening about pick-up. We do understand this creates a challenge for some families and we understand the tremendous responsibility it puts on the School to communicate schedule changes to students in a timely manner. The tremendous learning benefits created by limiting access to smart devices during the academic day far outweigh these hurdles and we are committed to partnering with families as they manage complex schedules with many moving parts. |
