Visual Arts

At ESD, we believe our students learn to connect with the world around them through art. Art classes encourage students to grow in creativity, communication, knowledge of culture, and critical thinking.

ESD Manifesto

In lower school, our youngest learners build fine motor skills through sensory art play. They experiment with finger painting, mold with clay sculpting, and play with color mixing. Students are exposed to multiple genres and techniques, and are encouraged to explore and experience each.

In middle school, students build upon the artistic technique, creativity, and media skills previously explored. Each student is required to take both 2D and 3D courses, where they have the opportunity to develop their talents in both semester- and year-long courses.

In upper school, the Visual Arts Program encourages students to hone their craft in the medium(s) of their choice. Not only do students create artwork for presentation at ESD, but many also showcase their works in local galleries.
