Exothermic Reactions in Celebration of National Chemistry Week

November 7, 2024

In honor of National Chemistry Week, middle and upper school students witnessed exothermic reaction demonstrations in chapel, complimented by upper school honors and AP Chemistry teacher Mr. Walt Warner, Honors Chemistry teacher Ms. Theresa Harris, and AP Chemistry students.

Honors Chemistry student Ellie Beshear ’27 gave the homily, sharing how science and religion coexist in her faith journey. Ellie reflected, “Science is basically observing the universe, inquiring about phenomena, and testing hypotheses to better understand and appreciate our universe. Science is…learning more about and gaining appreciation for God’s creation.”

AP Chemistry student-assistants for middle school chapel were Emmy Moss ’26 and Elliot Levy ’26. AP Chemistry student-assistants for upper school chapel were Arden Bowen ‘26, Layna Girata, and Maggie Chein ‘26.

This is the third year that National Chemistry Week has been celebrated in chapel with special homilies and scientific demonstrations. Thank you Mr. Warner and Ms. Harris, for the eye-opening experiments.
