Honor Code Wall Installation 2024-25
December 9, 2024
If you’ve ever walked through the Swann Center, you’ve likely seen the Honor Code exhibition displayed near the Eagles Nest and Dining Commons. Installed by ESD’s Upper School Honor Council, the Honor Code Wall showcases the signatures of every student, faculty, and staff member in the ESD community who signed the Code of Conduct earlier this year.
Inspired by walls at top colleges where honor pledges have roots back to the 1700s, ESD’s display was years in the making. It began as a collaborative effort between ESD’s Facilities Department, Upper School Administration, Office of Communication, and Chaplains. The Upper School Honor Council completed the project in the fall of 2022, and the final product was unveiled on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
“The students had to determine not only the layout of the images but also the supplies and tools needed for installation,” said Mary Jo Lyons, Upper School Librarian and Honor Council Advisor. “I was proud watching them figure everything out on the fly and work together as a team. Bryan Stuart (Campus Maintenance Engineer) and other facilities team members were a huge help.”
During its initial installation, 13 Honor Council members played a part in the signature wall, whether it was their role in the fall Code of Conduct signing of the sheets, two fall planning meetings, or the actual installation. Several students used a lunch period to sort through tallies and figure out the layout for each grade level on the wall. Knowing the height of our littlest Eagles, they started with Beginners at the bottom so they could see their names, which eventually led to the great exhibition that we enjoy in today’s halls.
December 9, 2024, our students conducted the third annual installation of our Honor Code Wall for the 2024-2025 school year, representing the entire ESD community from student to staff member. Students, faculty, and staff members signed the Code of Conduct at the beginning of September, and now, these signatures can be seen on the walls of the Swann Center. As a reflection of the exhibit's initial purpose, the display holds our Eagles accountable and reminds the community of its collective commitment to the school’s ideals.
Thank you to the Honor Council for continuing this project. The Honor Code Wall is a special part of the ESD hallways, and we are excited to have this academic year on display for all our Eagles!
