Showcasing SCAD's Formula 1 Electric Vehicle

October 25, 2024

ESD welcomed the Savanna College of Art and Design (SCAD) on campus for a special presentation on October 24 and 25, 2024. SCAD brought one unique design to the ESD campus - a Formula 1 Electric Vehicle! The design of this vehicle is meant to spark joy, excitement, and interest in the new generation of teenagers.

“The new generation doesn’t rush to get their license at 16 years old like people used to,” explained one of the SCAD student representatives. “When I was 16, I got my license and started driving immediately. We wanted to create a car that made kids want to drive again.”

Using 3D printing and faculty mentorship, a group of college students made this car to reignite the joys of driving. To achieve this goal, SCAD students focused heavily on the design to create a fully electric, visually appealing vehicle; the students derived inspiration from older sports cars to create something that represented freedom and driving fast. They brought their idea to life, and then they shared it with the students of ESD!

SCAD presented the process for designing the model and launching the car to our AP Drawing, AP Studio 2D Art & Design, Beginning Sculpture, middle school Design Lab, sixth, seventh, and fourth-grade science, middle school classes, and any students who stopped by to learn more. This was an exciting opportunity for students to see what they are learning in their classrooms applied to real life as the SCAD representatives explained the process for designing and creating the car.

Our fifth-grade Design and Modeling class has been learning about CAD software and 3D printing. Seeing the 3D-printed car from the Savannah College of Art and Design enabled our students to dream big. The SCAD representatives answered many of our students’ questions, and they were very impressed with our fifth-grade students working with AutoDesk software!

From designing to manufacturing, SCAD students produced something groundbreaking, empowering our ESD students to do the same one day!
